Comment on The Nespresso CitiZ, or how McDonald’s has become the home espresso of the future by Fred

I enjoy my Citiz for its ease of use, but I also find most of your complaints fairly valid; I'm basically just looking for an acceptable espresso that is better than what most big-name chains will offer me, and the Citiz is excellent for that purpose. I'd also like to reiterate Meghan's point from above, that the Citiz allows you to control the size of the shot, but also point out that if you get your coffee-sample from a demonstration machine at a shop they are almost invariably set to use too much water, as they are calibrated to the timid public rather than the true afficionados.

One final point: there is a company called "CoffeeDuck" that makes refillable pods for the Citiz and other Nespresso machines from the same line; with these and a little bit (ok, a fair bit) of initial tinkering to find the right amounts, you can get a truly fresh-ground espresso from a Citiz machine!

Fortunately for us, the calculations of the wave can also predict the position of the particle with a certain level of confidence.

Maybe if someone made you a proper cappuccino to begin with, you wouldn't have to drink it out of a cheap restaurant supply glass. ;)

You guys are hilarious. I usually get gibraltars from both Intelligentsia in LA and Broadacre in Sacramento (my 2 regular coffee places) because they are smaller and less "milky" than a cappuccino. Somehow I've managed to live happily, despite all that this says about my poor "values" lol.

I subscribe to the notion that coffee isn't a wave phenomenon, but instead exhibits the behaviors of a particle.

The fourth wave...maybe

I am that guy, that annoying one half way through the fourth quarter sitting right in from of you at the 49ers game. Having a good time and thinks his persona can really get the ball rolling. I am a bit more privy to the moniker of cheer-leader, but any name might do.

The wave of the future is a whole different dimension, to which we all intend, but yet near silence in the wake of such importance. While aesthetic beaty and the wall of the Last Supper do fortunately cover the wall of a room, the real beaty of the situation must be uncovered to be read.

Measurement is nearly futile as everyone claims it to be personally subjective. To personally subject oneself to torture is likely majority agreed. If you would, indeed pull back the drapes for a peak at what lay beneath the creme, for a smile looking out through the glass is all we pursue.

...of course I will sit back down, my sir.

Unbelievable coffee coupled with the most absent minded service you will ever experience. Nobody to take you to a table, and best of luck trying to get someone's attention unless you plan on standing up and walking to the till everyone you want to order something.

Sticking downtown can be a problem. Frank is good, Medici is pretty... But, when I was there last year for SXSW the best espresso/coffee was at Houndstooth. Unfortunately, you kind of need a car...

Akismet marked your last comment as spam, oddly, so I had to rescue it outta there.

Not that we shouldn't pick on CEOs, but there's one of them at Starbucks for 149,000 other employees. Maybe you believe that the CEO accounts for 80% of the entire payroll at corporations (actually, much of their pay is tied up in company stock) ... I don't know. But most of the labor costs in a retail coffee store are local labor rather than executive salaries -- people like minimum wage baristas, toilet cleaners, garbage tossers, delivery truck drivers, etc.

So when you laud the great honor and nobility of coffee farmers but want to "stick it to the man" by making coffee at home, let's be clear that the "man" you're sticking it to is primarily a minimum wage mop-and-button-pusher who is too short on cash to remove his Dave Matthews Band tattoo. Not that the guy deserves your charity, but let's be honest about where the money goes rather than conform reality to the convenience of political ideologies.
