not sure whats worse, that coffee common existed or the fact that ted expected the privilege of making coffee for them was more important than actually paying a catering rate.

in other commentary - the analogy with sugar in coffee compared to wine doesn't work in my view - simply because you never flavour enhancers or masks to the finished wine. (except for mulled!) surely the best coffee has been thoughtfully harvested, roasted and brewed well, and so therefor shouldn't need sugar.

the palate is another thing though. the italian way is 'with sugar' if they chose, they could attune their tastes to appreciate it without.

Interesting. CoffeeCon may have been playing up the "international" bit, as the C&T Festival squarely has NYC in its name and a NY angle in its messaging. Would love to see more examples like them, however.

And that's right: CoffeeFest is another example of a public event gone insiders-only. Thanks for pointing that one out.

And you missed this, which was the held-in-conjunction event for the NE Regional Barista Competition, and had way more than 1000 attendees: http://www.coffeeandteafestival.com/nyc/

2nd year for this event, which makes CoffeeCon's (initial) claim of “first-ever international consumer coffee conference” funny. Also funny: Coffeefest, the trade show we all know and love, originally started as a consumer show.
