[...] Farley’s Coffeehouse benefits from coffee-obsessed local clientele and a community that’s largely closed off from the rest of the city in Portero Hill. As a result, Farley’s boasts many loyal patrons who helped vote it into third place in CitySearch.com’s 2005 Best San Francisco Coffee. Farley’s is clearly a decent place for a shot of espresso in any neighborhood. But one of the city’s finest? [...]

What's funny is Greco is one of the latest comers to the North Beach clutch of Italian caffes (mid-1980s) and has felt as if it keeps a stronger connection to the contemporary Boot than the Beatnik shrine of Trieste or the mid-era Puccini (70s) or Roma (which cultivates more of a Sts. Peter and Paul / Soracco Bakery local feel).

[...] Chances are that the name “Mr. Espresso” doesn’t exactly hit you over the head as a symbol of the Bay Area’s finest espresso — but it should. They were recently ranked 6th in CitySearch.com’s 2005 Best San Francisco Coffee. At first, this may seem like a pretty good feat. You might even recognize Mr. Espresso as the only winner in the top ten that isn’t in San Francisco. But what if I told you that they don’t sell a single cup of coffee?
